Weathered Wood Roof & Chimney Upgrade

This roof replacement in Woodstock, GA restored full protection to the home using GAF Timberline HDZ shingles in Weathered Wood. The project improved curb appeal, enhanced weather resistance, and delivered a durable, manufacturer-backed roofing system designed for North Georgia’s climate.

Project Overview

Following storm exposure and age-related wear, the homeowner noticed declining roof performance, including compromised shingles, aging flashing, chimney-related vulnerabilities, and ventilation concerns. An inspection confirmed the need for a full roof replacement, along with upgraded leak protection, ventilation improvements, chimney pan work, and targeted carpentry repairs. The existing roofing system no longer provided reliable defense against Woodstock’s frequent rain events and seasonal storms, making a comprehensive solution necessary.

Results

The completed roofing system delivered immediate improvements in durability, appearance, and long-term performance. GAF Timberline HDZ shingles provide enhanced wind resistance, consistent coverage, and reliable protection. Advanced leak barriers were installed at valleys, penetrations, chimneys, and along flashed wall areas to reinforce water protection.

Low-slope sections were addressed using a Liberty modified bitumen system with matching cap sheet for seamless waterproofing. Ventilation was upgraded by installing GAF Cobra III ridge venting on all ridges except the front dormer, along with additional exhaust vents to improve attic airflow and system efficiency. A new custom-fabricated chimney pan with increased turndown was installed to improve water shedding and protect surrounding trim.

Decking repairs were completed where required to meet code and ensure a solid nailing surface. The project also included exterior carpentry repairs to chimney and dormer siding, restoring proper clearances and a clean finished appearance. With installation completed to manufacturer standards, the homeowner now has a secure, storm-ready roofing system built for long-term performance.
