Weathered Wood Roof Replacement | Huntsville, Al

This roof replacement in Huntsville, AL restored full protection to the home using GAF Timberline HDZ shingles in Weathered Wood. The project improved weather resistance, enhanced ventilation, and provided the homeowner with a durable, manufacturer-backed roofing system designed for long-term performance.

Project Overview

Following storm exposure and age-related wear, the homeowner experienced declining roof performance, including worn shingles, compromised flashing, and ventilation deficiencies. An inspection confirmed the need for a full roof replacement, along with upgraded leak protection, improved attic ventilation, and replacement of outdated roof penetrations. The existing roof system no longer provided dependable protection against Huntsville’s frequent rain events, prompting the need for a comprehensive and long-lasting roofing solution.

Results

The new roofing system delivered immediate improvements in protection, durability, and overall performance. GAF Timberline HDZ shingles provided enhanced wind resistance, consistent coverage, and long-term reliability. Advanced leak barriers were installed at valleys, penetrations, and chimney areas using ice and water shield for reinforced moisture protection.

Ventilation was upgraded by installing ridge vents along all ridgelines to improve airflow and attic performance. Plumbing boots were replaced and sealed with rain collars, and HVAC vent stacks were sealed and painted for added durability. Three new SunTunnel acrylic dome skylights were installed to increase natural light within the home while maintaining a watertight seal. Necessary decking repairs were completed using OSB sheathing to ensure a solid installation surface. All flashing components—including step flashing, headwall flashing, and counter flashing—were replaced to meet manufacturer and code requirements. With installation completed to manufacturer standards, the homeowner now has a secure roofing system built to perform through future storms.
