Weathered Wood Roof Replacement | Smyrna, GA

This roof replacement in Smyrna, GA restored full protection to the home using GAF Timberline HDZ shingles in Weathered Wood. Project Overview

Following storm exposure and age-related wear, the homeowner began experiencing declining roof performance, including worn shingles, aging flashing, and areas vulnerable to water intrusion. An inspection confirmed the need for a full roof replacement, along with upgraded leak protection and repairs to deteriorated decking. Additional exterior improvements were also identified to address soffit, fascia, and gutter-related concerns contributing to improper drainage. The existing roof system no longer provided dependable defense against Smyrna’s frequent rain events, prompting the need for a comprehensive and long-lasting solution. 

Results

The new roofing system delivered immediate improvements in protection, appearance, and overall performance. GAF Timberline HDZ shingles provided enhanced wind resistance, uniform coverage, and long-term durability. StormGuard ice and water shield was installed at valleys, penetrations, chimneys, and other critical areas to reinforce leak protection.

Low-slope and transition areas were reinforced using a Liberty rolled roofing system with base and cap sheets for a seamless, watertight finish. Ventilation components were addressed by reusing existing systems where applicable and properly sealing roof penetrations. Necessary decking repairs were completed using OSB sheathing to ensure a solid installation surface.

In addition to the roof replacement, exterior carpentry repairs were completed, including replacement of fascia and soffit materials, followed by sealing and painting. A new seamless aluminum gutter system with downspouts and gutter guards was installed to improve drainage and protect the home’s foundation.
