Plumbing Vent Leak Repair | Decatur, GA
This roof repair project in Decatur, GA restored critical protection to the home by addressing a roof leak at a plumbing vent penetration. The targeted repair improved water resistance and reinforced vulnerable areas to prevent further moisture intrusion.
Project Overview
Following active leakage concerns, the homeowner requested an inspection to identify the source of a roof leak. The assessment revealed deterioration around a plumbing vent penetration, including compromised shingles, failed sealant, and inadequate leak protection. Due to the location of the repair near overhead power lines, coordination with Georgia Power was required prior to performing the work. A focused repair was recommended to replace damaged materials and properly seal the affected area.
Results
The completed repair restored watertight integrity at the plumbing vent penetration. A new plumbing boot and rain collar were installed to properly seal the pipe and prevent water intrusion. Damaged shingles were removed and replaced using GAF Timberline shingles in Birchwood to blend with the existing roof. StormGuard ice and water shield was installed beneath the repair area to provide enhanced leak protection.
New decking was installed as needed using an 8" x 8" wood section to reinforce the substrate. Fasteners, rubber-washered screws, and roofing sealant were applied to ensure all components were securely installed and properly sealed. With repairs completed, the homeowner now has improved protection against future leaks at this previously vulnerable roof penetration.
