Warranties
A warranty is only
as good as the company standing behind it. This is one area where
unscrupulous contractors take full advantage of customers. For example,
they lure customers in with an enticing 10 year warranty that they
have no intention of honoring. Customers can protect themselves
by determining if this warranty is sincere by checking certain crucial
items out.
TEST #1
Does the contractor have an infrastructure to deal with warranty
work?
Here is what this means.
If the company doesn't have a few men whose only job is to be available
to customers to handle questions, complaints, or problems, then
you can be sure that your warranty is nothing more than an enticement
to do business, and you will not receive the service you think you
have bought.
Here's why. If the
company has been around for a few years and has received a number
of roofs under its belt, each one of those roofs represent a potential
warranty call. The longer a company has been in business, the more
roofs are done over the years and the more potential warranty calls
are out there. Now these warranty calls come in not only for genuine
roof leaks, but for all suspected leaks, no matter what the cause.
Toilet and bathroom leaks, air conditioner condensation pans, faulty
plumbing vent pipes, cracks in siding, stucco, cracks and holes
in walls, water soaking through saturated brickwork, unsealed window
sills and ledges, rusted and unsealed chimney pans, unsealed windows
are just some examples of leaks that occur in homes that lead to
a warranty call.
Now none of these aforementioned
examples have anything to do with the installation of the roof,
but water has gotten into the house, so they are all potential warranty
calls. It is usually the roofer who gets the call to go out there
to see what the problem is, and just like the homeowner, the roofers
expectation should be that the roof itself is the source of the
leak. If he doesnt show up because he is so busy with his current
work, and and doesnt have a big enough team in his infrastructure
to only handle all the warranty calls, then what good is the warranty,
no matter what the warranty period is? In fact, the longer the warranty
period, the less likely the warranty has any meaning.
TEST#2
How long has the company been in business in the same location?.
Roofing companies are infamous for changing their companies name,
their location or just closing up and starting again under a new
name or new location when the going gets tough. How can these companies
give you a 10 year warranty?
Dr. Roof has been in
business since 1988 in the same location and has never changed its
name. We have stood the test of time, and been available for all
our customers whose roofs we have done since 1988. They all know
where we are, and we are easy to find when you need us. Ask us for
the names of the customers whose roofs we have taken care of even
when the warranty period is long over.
We at Dr. Roof are
so confident of the quality of our work, and the competence of our
roof crews, supervisors and our quality control departments, that
Dr. Roof is very comfortable offering a 10yr warranty covering homeowners
against defective workmanship. This special warranty is offered
where homeowners request the use of the additional protection of
weatherwatch under all low pitch roofs, and around all penetrations.
For this 10 year warranty, only the wrinkle free roof felt must
be used, and the roof must be properly ventilated. There may be
some limitations and exceptions due to design and other factors
that may be unique to the circumstances of the roof.
This same confidence
has been placed in us by all the manufacturers, who have knowledge
of our exemplary performance and service to our customers. We have
proven ourselves and stood the test of time.
Shingle manufacturers
also offer special warranties that can only be offered by a very
select few roofing contractors, that they have chosen. These manufacturers
recognize that the homeowners biggest challenge is choosing the
right roofing contractor to do the work. To help make this decision
easier, they have selected Dr. Roof to represent them, and to be
part of their exclusive factory certification program. They have
asked us all the tough questions, so the homeowner doesn't have
to.
Dr. Roof has easily met the standards required by these manufacturers.
To become qualified,
and be selected, we had to pass exams given by the manufacturers.
We had to show that we are:
-Fully licensed in
our state and city to perform roofing work.
-Adequately insured
for your protection, with Workers Comp and General Liability specifically
for roofing, and not deceptively covered under a different company
name or a different trade masquerading as roofing. Many homeowners
are deceived by so called well known roofers employing this ruse.
-Have a proven reputation
for providing quality roofing services throughout the community.
-Committed to ongoing
professional training to ensure quality installation.
Financially stable with an excellent track record.
WE HAVE THE FOLLOWING
CERTIFICATIONS:
GAF Master Elite. This
provides 10 yr. and 12 yr. warranty coverage for labor and material
in the event of a manufacturers defect. See brochures for more details.
Certainteed Select
roofer and Quality Master status. This provides the same as above,
with their surestart and Surestart Plus programs. See brochures
for details.
